Dinant

El sábado 11 de Marzo nos fuimos a Dinant. En el viaje íbamos Xu, María, Cristina, Angela, Siobhán y yo (X CAMP).

On Saturday 11th we went to Dinant. Let me introduce you my friends: Xu, María, Cristina, Angela and Siobhán.

La primera parada fue Namur, que es la capital de Valonia, así que paramos un rato para comer y ver un poco la ciudad, que, a decir verdad, no nos impresionó mucho. Pero fue divertido y además nos llevamos un gofre de chocolate pal cuerpo.

The first stop was Namur, which is the capital of the Wallonia province, so we stopped a little bit for eating and see the city, but honestly, we didn't like it that much. It was fun and we ate waffles with chocolate inside (to keep the healthy body, you know).

Xu encontró el saxofón de China 

Después volvimos a coger el tren y llegamos finalmente a Dinant. La ciudad es muy pequeña y a menos de cinco minutos de la estación está el centro de la ciudad atravesado por el río Mosa. El puente que cruza este río está lleno de saxofones que representan a distintos países. El motivo de los instrumentos es que Dinant es la ciudad natal del inventor del saxofón, Adolphe Sax.

We catched the train again and we finally arrived to Dinant. The city was very small and we just walked five minutes from the train station stop to the center of the city, located in the valley of the Meuse river. 

Queríamos subir a la Ciudadela de Dinant, una fortaleza desde la que se puede ver la estampa de la ciudad y el río. Las dos formas de acceder a la cima son, o bien subiendo 408 escalones, o bien con la ayuda de un teleférico. Claramente elegimos lo segundo y en la cima tomamos algunas fotos que os dejo a continuación (algunas de ellas fueron tomadas con la cámara de Angela)

We wanted to go to the Citadel of Dinant, a fortress in which you can see the panoramic view the city and the river. There are two ways to get to the top: the first one is using the stairs (408 steps) and the second is with the help of the cable car. We obviously choosed the second one and in the top we took some pictures you can see below (some of them are from Angela's camera).

 

A la vuelta Cristina, Siobhán y María bajaron corriendo las escaleras (alguna de ellas casi se mata...) para ver quién llegaba antes y la verdad es que la cosa estuvo muy reñida. 

On the way back Cristina, Siobhán and María ran down the stairs (one of them almost die...) to see what way was faster and they arrived before us (cheating).

Estuvimos durante varias horas explorando la fortaleza, las trincheras, conociendo la historia y las batallas que tuvieron lugar en ese lugar. 

We stayed for several hours exploring the fortress, the trenches, knowing the history and the battles that took place in that place.

Después estuvimos paseando; entramos en la iglesia para ver el interior y la vidriera.

Cuando nos entró hambre entramos una tienda y vimos las galletas famosas de Dinant (Couque de Dinant). Están hechas de miel y cocinadas en moldes de madera de diferentes formas. Además tienen el fabuloso record de ser las galletas más duras de toda Europa (doy fe de ello). 

We went to a shop that sell the famous cake of Dinant (Couque de Dinant). They are made with honey and cooked in wooden molds of different shapes. They also are the Europe's hardest biscuits (I can vouch for it).

Liège • Luik • Lieja

Xu, María y yo nos fuimos a pasar el día a Lieja.

Day: 25/02/2017. 

Xu, María and me. We went to spend the day in Liège.

Llegamos a la estación de Liège (Gare de Guillemins), una construcción metálica blanquecina, está al aire libre y es inmensa. 

We arrived to the Liège station (Gare de Guillemins), a white metallic construction, is a huge outdoor building.

Al cruzar el puente del Rey Alberto llegamos a un islote en medio del río donde se encuentra el museo de La Boverie, alrededor se encuentra el parque del mismo nombre, donde había un lago con patos. 

After crossing 'King Albert' bridge there is a land space in the middle of the river and there you can find the La Boverie museum. Around this place there is a park with the same name, with a lake and ducks.

Dentro de este museo de bellas artes pudimos ver cuadros de Gauguin, Picasso y Magritte, entre otros. También había una sala de arte moderno bastante peculiar. 

Inside the museum of fine arts we could see painting from Gauguin, Picasso and Magritte, among others. There was also one room with modern art, you can watch it in the video.

Al salir del museo nos dirigimos hacia el centro siguiendo el río, la ciudad mantiene un equilibrio entre lo moderno y los edificios típicos belgas. 

After the museum we went to the center of the city following the river, the city maintains a balance between modern and traditional buildings.

Cuando nos entró un poco de hambre paramos en un restaurante pequeño para tomar algo. Para beber hemos pedido 'Ligèois', una bebida hecha a partir de zumo de naranja y granadina.

At lunch time we stopped in a small restaurant to eat something. The drink was called 'Ligèois', it's a drink made of orange juice and grenadine.

 

Justo después nos hemos dirigido a la Montagne de Bueren, una escalinata de exactamente 373 escalones hasta llegar a cima. Y una vez arriba, vuelta para abajo. Pero las vistas merecen la pena.

After eating, we went to the Montagne de Bueren, a incline hill with exactly 373 stairs until arrive to the top. And when you arrive... you come back down. But the views are worth it.

 

A continuación vemos dos iglesias: la iglesia de St. Paul y la de St. Jacques. La primera está en reparación y por dentro no es muy bonita, pero la segunda por dentro es espectacular y todo el exterior es de piedra grisácea decolorada casi en negro, lo que le da un aspecto muy particular.

We saw two churches: St. Paul and St. Jacques church. The first was being repaired and inside it wasn't that beautiful (so no pics) but the second was spectacular and the building exterior is beautiful with the combination of the grey stone and the windows.

Pasamos por delante del palacio de los Príncipes-Obispos (Palais des Princes-Êvêques) y paseando nos compramos los famosos gofres de Lieja, con chocolate por dentro. ¡Mmmm!

We passed in front of the Prince-Bishop's Palace and afer twe bought the famous Liège waffles with chocolate inside, ¡Mmm!



He notado mucho el cambio al viajar desde Lovaina (parte Flamenca) a Lieja (región Valona) debido a que todo el mundo hablaba en francés.

During the day I had the feeling I was in a different country because everybody was talking in french (Liège belongs to the french speaking part from Belgium)

BRUJAS

Brugge o Brujas es una de las ciudades más conocidas de Bélgica y con razón. Además es, en mi opinión, mucho más bonita que la capital.

Brugge or Bruges is one of the most famous cities in Belgium and It is in my opinion much beautiful than the capital.

El viernes 10 de febrero fuimos a Brujas, en este viaje éramos todas españolas: María, Ana, Mariate, Eugenia y yo. 

On the 10th of February we went to Brugge, in this trip we were all spanish girls: María, Ana, Mariate, Eugenia and me.

La estación está al sur de la ciudad y tras caminar cinco minutos llegamos al  Minnewater, también conocido como el lago del amor ("Minne" significa "amor" en flamenco). El lago está ahí desde hace 800 años y funcionó como puerto.

Al final puedes encontrar un pequeño puente por el cual se puede acceder al Begijnhof o beaterio. Normalmente suele haber cisnes en las aguas.

The station is in the south of the city and after walking for five minutes we arrived to the Minnewater lake, also known as the love lake. The lake has been there for 800 years and it was an important port. At the end you can find a small bridge and if you cross it you will find the Begijnhof or beguinage. Usually you can find some swans in the water.

En primavera, cuando florecen las flores amarillas, es más bonito

Durante las Cruzadas, cuando los hombres se marchaban, el beaterio servía como lugar de refugio temporal para las mujeres, las cuales hacían votos temporales.

During the Crusades, when men went to the war, the beguinage was a temporal refuge for all the women.

Siguiendo el río llegamos al centro de la ciudad, vamos un poco lentas porque todo es tan bonito que nos paramos a tomar una foto casi cada cinco minutos. En la siguiente foto se puede ver el Hospital de San Juan, que parece que está flotando sobre las aguas.

We followed the river as far as the center to the city, we were walking a bit slow because we stopped a lot to take pictures. In the next pic you can see the San Juan Hospital, that seems to be floting in the water.

Llegamos a la Grote Markt de Lovaina, toda ciudad belga que se precie tiene una de estas. 

Uno de los edificios que encontramos en esta plaza es el campanario medieval o Belfort. Este campanario forma parte de la lista de torres que son Patrimonio de la UNESCO. La torre tiene 83 metros y para subir a lo alto tuvimos que subir 366 escalones.

One of the buildings we found in this Square is the medieval Belfry o Belfort. This tower is part of the Patrimony of humanity from the UNESCO. The tower has 83 metres high and for getting to the top of the bell tower we had to climb 366 stairs.

Desde lo alto teníamos unas vistas preciosas y, aunque estaba nublado, hicimos fotos como estas de toda Brujas:

From above we had amazing views and, in spite of the fog, we did this pictures of all Bruges skyline:

En esta misma plaza también se encuentra el palacio provincial (Provinciaal Hof) de Brujas, un edificio blanco de estilo neogótico. 

In this Market Square we also saw the Province Court (Provinciaal Hof) of Bruges, a beautiful white neogothic building. 

Por último, en esta plaza también se encuentran las pequeñas casas gremiales, pequeñas casas de fachada escalonada.
Fimally, we found the Guild houses.

Al lado de esta plaza central está la plaza Burg, donde se encuentra el Ayuntamiento o Stadhuis y la Basílica de la Santa Sangre, en la que, según la tradición, puedes encontrar la reliquia con la sangre de Cristo.

Next to this place we arrived to the Burg Square, here you can find the City Hall or Stadhuis and the Basilica of the Holy Blood, called like that because of the relic you can see inside.

Vidrieras del interior 

Palacio de justicia desde el siglo XIX

Cruzando el edificio dorado (palacio de justicia) recorremos unas calles hasta llegar al Rozenhoedkaai o Muelle del Rosario, uno de los puntos más fotografiados de toda la ciudad. En este sitio se entiende por qué Brujas es considerada por algunos 'La Venecia del norte'. En este lugar se encontraba una antigua fortaleza que se construyó para frenar a los invasores nórdicos, los vikingos. 

If you cross through the golden building and follow the river you will arrive at Rozenhoedkaai, one of the more photographed spots in Bruges. In this place you can understand why Bruges in considered the 'Venice of the North'. In this place there was a fort to stop the nordic invaders, the vikings.

Seguimos explorando la ciudad hasta que cae la noche. Os dejo más fotografías de esta ciudad. Las dos primeras fotos son de dos de los puentes más antiguos de la ciudad: Meebrug y el Peerdenbrug.

We walk through the city until the night fell. Below you have more pics of the oldest bridges in Bruges: Meebrug and Peerdenbrug.

Para todos los españoles que están leyendo esto, me gustaría explicaros una cosa sobre el nombre de esta ciudad. Nosotros conocemos por el nombre de 'Brujas' a la ciudad llamada 'Brugge' en neerlandés, esta palabra significa "puente". 

For the non spanish people, maybe you don't know that Brugge (Bruges in english) is 'Brujas' in spanish, which means 'witches'.

Esto ha sido todo del viaje a Brujas, espero que os haya gustado.
